I married a man 30 years my senior whom I met when I was 21 and he was 51.  We had a 29 year marriage and 3 children.  The youngest is now a
freshman at LSU, my old Alma Mater.  My son is an Air Force Academy graduate, now a Captain up at Hanscom AFB in Boston, and my older daughter just goes along happily working for the City of Farmers Branch TX with no particular ambition of any sort except to pay her bills and keep smiling. There are no grandchildren yet, but I surely look forward to them since I was a stay-at-home mom most of my adult life, and loved it.
I entered the workforce about 10 years ago to work for the very first super bookstore in Dallas - the Borders at Preston and Royal.  I was on the opening day staff there, which practically makes me part of history itself since there are coffee saturated bookstores everywhere now! I trained for college library work, but so far have only worked in school and public libraries - go figure! I have been at a crossroads this year now that I am in my house alone.  (I don't like it.)  My sister Kathy and I both recently went back to our maiden names, and she wants me to move to Atlanta where she is.  (But, but....I've been in Dallas nearly 30 years now!)
I can do anything I want now -- and that is actually the problem since I never dreamed I would have this particular dilemma to face!  Hmmm, let's see...I could go back to school, change careers.  I could go live in New Zealand, or the wilds of Wales.  I could trek the desert or climb the Himalayas, you name it..
    I'm taking suggestions!

Hi everyone!!
After leaving Woodlawn I joined my new husband in Ruston where he attended Louisiana Tech ..Then he went on to Viet Nam leaving me and our 6 week old daughter behind. He survived the war but our marriage did not...somewhere along the way I discovered I had a knack for selling ..I started working flea markets on the weekends selling my wares...and eventually opened antique stores in Madisonville and Slidell, Louisiana while still keeping my flea market business in the French Quarter in New Oleans.I am the President of the French Market Vendors there...It is my job to keep our 400 plus merchants. as content as possible. and to speak to the New Orleans City Council Members monthly ..about our needs and progress... My daughter is all grown now with a beautiful 5 year old of her own. My granddaughter calls me NaNa and melts my heart... I am happily single now, fianally realize that is as it should be. Would love to hear from all!

Hello Everyone ! I'm Back ! It's Janet Aust Chapin. About My life, O.K. My profile is as long as Doug Rimmer's. (ha) After leaving WHS I moved to Memphis & pursued my career (singing). After 2 years of keeping my day job, I performed Delta Queen, Air Force bases, and any gig any where I could. I finally got a major recording contract. With 2 songs to release, booked Johnny Carson, and a Bob Hope tour of Vietnam, I realized a  problem with Management/Agent. It seemed they wanted 20 years of my life. Living that life style, was not for me, and I came home. I married and had 2 son's Michael (35) and Brian (29). I Divorced and remained a single parent for 6 years.  Then the Knight in shining armor (a couple of good ones I missed in school)  came along. Actually The Cowboy and the life I lived as a child. He had  2 son's, = 4 and then we had 1 (Cody) = 5. I adopted 2 along the way = 7. For 25 years we lived the ranch life, penning cattle, working horses, and owned our own business, a horse auction. When I fed them all (my family), it took 28 pork chops. If I fried chicken, it took 3 of them. Now I realize I should have purchased stock in Wrangler, Stetson, Justin Boots along with Pilgrim's Pride! Four years ago I discovered "Cowboy's Don't Shoot Straight Like They Used To", and I decided to dismantle the feed trough, pull up stakes and headed south, that was the day the stock market fell considerably, even" pork bellies"(I do believe that was considered hogs).
My youngest son, Cody (22) will be graduating from Texas A&M, Bachelor Degree in Science, Marine Biology, and will be moving to Hawaii August 14th. Again I will be faced with Empty Nest Syndrome. That is why I am here now! The only way to keep communication is E-Mail. I do not like Computers!  Being out in this world can be frightening, my boy's have lives of there own and I don't get to see them that often, but I AM proud of all of them. I am living in north Houston, with my life in storage and at this time not decided my future. Donnie Zeagler and I had lunch in May and it was awesome being with "The Familiar", as we discussed WHS and all the people we knew. He told me about the site and I have heard from several of our Old Buddie's. I have always kept up with Janice Matthews(Burford) and Toni Savat(Camp), and Tommy Giddens. I now have talked to Ricky Morris, Mary Alice McCrary, Kirbby Ramsey, and Peggy McGraw. My sister took mug shots of me to put photo on site & SHE made a web site! I feel like Hooker .Com!!!!! I have family photo's to follow. My life has been full and I have no Regrets. God has used me as a vessel to do some extraordinary things. I will share.  The  Year of Desert Storm, I felt moved by all the empty chairs at Thanksgiving and decided to send every soldier( 300,000 of them ) a letter from a child for the holidays. A year before, I recorded a song,"She's America". Agents went nuts to Release it. I was working with major news media, the White House and Pentagon. Quite a task, but my objective to go to Saudi seemed to be retribution for not going to "Nam". So excited and all the letters, I went to the studio and had 200 copies of the song copied. The day before, they declared Saudi a war zone and I was devastated!! I could not go. I went to the plane filled with huge crates and I threw all the tapes into them along with a Prayer. The label company was very angry, they saw $$$$$ and I saw God's Purpose. One day a video tape came, so excited I ran home & played it. I saw the desert, camels and shepherds, a huge barbed razor fence, missiles, planes, and suddenly I realized it was from a platoon on the FRONT LINES!!! Suddenly I heard The Song playing stridently loudly coming from a tape player!  I realized at that point, my talent was not wasted and I had received an award far greater than any Grammy. The letter from the soldier's was an honor.  My life has been filled with Blessings. I hope to hear from some of you. Thanks for listening. My boy's tell me "Mom we are never surprised to look at your Caller ID and see the White House, Oprah Winfrey, or some movie producer has called", it's amazing. Well I'll Stop now. Hope to hear from you all soon.
                                      Janet Aust Chapin
P.S. If you know someone that needs a good friend, I would like to find someone who will  appreciate me Ordering Take Out or Go out a couple of evenings, I don't mind taking clothes to the cleaners, and I would even teach the house keeper Everything.  I am not High Maintenance. I am loyal, kind, I will allow him to have complete control Of The Remote Control, as long as I have my own.l am very talented in song as well as dancing (just ask Ricky Morris), and I love Coffee every morning, with some fruit (strawberries, kiwi, bannannas as long as I have Poppy Seed Dressing forget the Rose that's o.k.) Oh well I'm sure My phone will be ringing!!!! HA!
